Summer Internships »

Summer Internship

Hercules offers two types of summer internship opportunities – Analyst and Associate positions. Summer Analyst positions are designed for college students, and Summer Associate positions are designed for second-year MBA students (or students with one year remaining to complete an advanced degree).

Due to the relatively small size of the Hercules' professional staff, investment teams are typically small which means that Summer Interns are able to take on important and integral roles within the firm. Summer Interns are expected to assume similar responsibilities as Hercules' full-time Analysts and Associates. As a result, our interns are often given multiple assignments at a time and have the opportunity to participate in many aspects of projects.

The Summer Internship program is for 10-weeks and begins in early June.

Investment Analyst »

Investment Analyst

New college graduates generally fill Analyst positions. Through the course of their day-to-day responsibilities, Analysts have the opportunity to participate in many aspects of a deal and also have exposure to the Hercules' senior professional staff and deal team due to the relatively small size of each sector group. Typical responsibilities include financial analysis, computer modeling, research and competitive analysis as part of investment due diligence recommendations to the Investment Committee.

Analysts begin their employment in early July with an informal and intensive 2-3 week on-the-job training program that addresses accounting, corporate finance and financial modeling, an overview of Hercules' corporate history and operations, and a review of the firm's technology systems and database capabilities.

Associate »

Associates

Hercules typically recruits Associates directly out of MBA programs as well as from the investment banking or private equity industry. Associate candidates typically have either five to seven years of post undergraduate experience or have recently completed an MBA program.

Associates receive broad-based exposure to the full-spectrum of financial and strategic issues. The relatively small size of each sector group offers Associates the opportunity to work closely with senior members of the firm and to have extensive client interaction. By working closely with both the analysts and the deal sponsor (Managing Director), the Associate will be responsible for accurate financial analysis, computer modeling, research, competitive analysis, as well as critical on-site due diligence that is an part of the investment due diligence recommendation to the Investment Committee.

Managing Director »

Managing Director

Managing Directors play critical roles in the investment process at Hercules. They are responsible for sourcing new deals, delivering written and oral analyses of investment opportunities, negotiating and structuring investments, participating in the due diligence process, overseeing our team of Analysts and Associates during the preparation of diligence materials and financial models, and closely tracking industry trends.

To qualify for this position, candidates must demonstrate a high level of achievement in regards to: deal origination; deals closed; realized investments; and maintaining and cultivating a robust network of contacts. Ideal candidates have 10+ years of prior work experience (with a technology or life sciences industry focus) in investment banking, venture capital, private equity or leveraged finance.
