Technology Investing - Pre- or Post-MBA Associate

Palo Alto, CA and Boston, MA

 

Description:

 

Under the guidance of and in close collaboration with the Managing Directors, and Principals, Associates are responsible for deal execution, market research and analysis, and support of on-going portfolio management. Specific tasks are as follows:

  • Initial Deal Review and Execution
    • Assist in deal sourcing through targeted areas of interest within the various technologies and life science sub-sectors industries or investment theses.
    • Initial deal review and screening.
    • Conducting all aspects of business, financial and industry due diligence.
    • Financial modeling and valuation analysis.
    • Preparing written presentations for Investment Committee.
    • Preparing industry/competitive research.
    • Interacting and establishing rapport with third party due diligence partners as well as potential prospective company management teams.
  • Portfolio Management
    • Monitor portfolio company performance
    • Support the deal sponsors responsible for managing the investment
    • Identify portfolio company future financing opportunities
    • Assist by drafting quarterly credit and valuation reports
    • Assist in the preparation and presentations to the Board of Directors

Qualifications:

 

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Minimum of one to three years of direct private equity, investment banking, consulting, specialized technology lending experience or principal investing experience in a technology-oriented and/or venture capital environment.
  • The Associate position also requires strong analytical capabilities, financial modeling proficiency, excellent written and oral communication skills, and a willingness to be proactive in contacting people and learning, and a working knowledge of technology investing.
  • Taken on senior execution roles (including attending management meetings, involvement with deal structuring, pre and post investment portfolio management, etc.) in the transactions they worked on.
  • Candidates must be intellectually curious, comfortable with technology and possess strong ethical character.
  • A solid academic record preferably with an MBA (0-2 years out of Business school is strongly preferred but not required).

  • Tenacious in meeting deadlines, with a strong sense of urgency and good self-management discipline. Capable of working effectively under pressure.
  • Organized and efficient, with good ability to define priorities; good at figuring out the processes necessary to get things done.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. Position requires communication with upper-level individuals at banks, equity groups, and existing and prospective clients.
  • Able to adapt to differing situations and changing priorities.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • A confident, team player who listens to internal and external input but can take decisive action.
  • A solid academic record preferably with an MBA (0-2 years out of Business school is strongly preferred but not required).

 

Compensation:


Compensation will consist of a market-level base salary, a performance-based bonus and a long-term equity incentive.
